REEL DEAL movies and Television: Budoy

Its very rare to see a teleserye that promotes a great cause rather than focusing more on loveteams or same old storyline that the people now won't buy anymore. However, this time ABS CBN now presents BUDOY, a story of a mentally-challenged boy seeking acceptance and love from the people around him. Because of his condition, he is faced of many hardships and ridicule from the public. Portrayed by former PBB Teen, Gerald Anderson (who have already played a guy with Torette syndrome for Maalaala mo kaya). This so far is his most challenging role so far and in the press preview, we were again teary eyed like the last press preview of 100 days to heaven. This series will start this Monday starting October 10.

On the press preview, everyone is indeed moved with the each scene. Never a dull moment and with lines so moving yet unforgettable.  “Napakaganda ng paglalakbay na ipakikita sa atin ni Budoy. Aside from the powerhouse cast, there are a lot of values in life and family that the viewers can learn from the story,” he said.
Gerald Anderson confessed that he is blessed to have been immersed in Budoy’s character. “Napakalaking tulong sa pagganap ko ang immersion na ginawa namin. Mas lumalim ang pagkilala ko kay Budoy at na-inspire ako sa pagmamahal niya sa pamilya at sa sipag at determinasyon niyang harapin ang buhay.”

First introduced to the Philippine audience via the reality TV show “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition,” Gerald Anderson worked his way up to become one of this generation’s most sought-after leading men through soap operas like “Sana Maulit Muli,” “My Girl,” “Tayong Dalawa” and “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.”

Witness a different Gerald Anderson in “Budoy” and see how he transformed to a role which he described as “different and refreshing.” How can a family blessing turn into a family shame? How can a family disown their own flesh and blood in the name of an unblemished reputation? Can a mentally-challenged boy survive the discriminating eyes of the society?

Budoy brings together a powerhouse cast composed of promising Kapamilya young stars Jessy Mendiola and Enrique Gil; legendary luminaries of Philippine movie industry including Dante Rivero, Gloria Sevilla and Barbara Perez; and seasoned actors namely Tirso Cruz III, Zsa-Zsa Padilla, Mylene Dizon, Christian Vazquez, and Janice de Belen who makes a comeback in the Kapamilya network.

Under the direction of Ruel S. Bayani and Tots Sanchez-Mariscal, Budoy is set to highlight the value of education among the Filipino youth while stressing those individuals known to be mentally-challenged. More on Budoy here. The series features a moving theme song from Angeline Quinto.
