Derrick Monasterio admits getting jealous of Joshua Dionisio

Teen kapuso star Derrick Monasterio admitted that he sometimes feels jealous of fellow teen actor Joshua Dionisio, the former on-screen partner and rumored suitor of Barbie Forteza, who is Derrick's co-star in the afternoon series, "Paroa: Ang Kuwento ni Mariposa."

Derrick made the admission last week when he and Barbie engaged in a Live Chat with their fans online via GMA Network's web portal www.gmanetwork.com.

An online chatter asked whether Derrick feels jealous of Joshua.  The teen actor answered the question out loud, albeit succinctly: "Opo. Minsan."

When another chatter asked him if he would be in favor of Joshua being Barbie's boyfriend, Derrick simply answered, "Okay lang."

Derrick and Barbie's relatively new love team was formed after GMA Network began an experiment of shuffling the previous love teams of its "tween" stars.  Joshua, who used to be partnered with Barbie decided to lay low in show business apparently to pursue his studies.  Derrick, on the other hand, used to be partnered with Lexi Fernandez, daughter of actress Maritoni Fernandez.

Derrick and Barbie was formally launched as a love team in the pre-Primetime fantasy series, "Paroa: Ang Kuwento ni Mariposa."  Their team-up has since been called the "DerBie" love team.

Derrick and Barbie said in an interview that they got along pretty well because they have been friends since their "Tweenhearts" and "Tween Academy" days.

Establishing rapport with each other is one thing, being accepted by the audience -- especially by the supporters of their previous love teams -- is another.  Initially, the DerBie love team was not received warmly especially by the fans of the JoshBie (Joshua-Barbie) love team who have been lobbying that their idols be brought back together on-screen.  Eventually, majority of the audience came to accept Derrick and Barbie's on-screen chemistry as evidenced by the high TV ratings "Paroa" has been receiving.

But for fans who are hoping that the two would be a couple in real life, here's a not-so-good news:  whatever sweetness Derrick and Barbie display on-screen, it seems the feeling is simply platonic.

Asked if he has plans of courting Barbie, Derrick said that he thinks it would be better for them to remain as friends since a romantic love affair is risky.  He is not closing his doors for good, however.

Can't get enough of Barbie Forteza and Derrick Monasterio?  Watch them in "Paroa: Ang Kuwento ni Mariposa," from Monday to Friday, in its new time slot after "Smile Dong Hae" (approx. 5:00pm), on GMA-7.
