Fresh, young filmmakers and outdoor movie screening highlight the first ever NuCinema: NUVALI Outdoor Film Festival

Flowers in full bloom. Families enjoying sweet and leisurely time together in the park. Young lovers by the lake caught in the giddy thrills of first romance. Captured on film, these images of man and nature beautifully co-existing are a joy to watch.

On October 26, the fifteen (15) finalists of the first ever NuCinema: NUVALI Short Film Competition will be revealed.

Mounted in association with the Asia Pacific Film Institute, SkyCable and Ayala Cinemas, The NuCinema NUVALI Short Film Competition aims to uplift, promote, and celebrate the local film industry and help new talents as well to realize their dreams of becoming filmmakers.

Sharing this vision are seasoned directors and producers Paul Soriano, Jeffrey Jeturian, Jade Castro and Spring Films producer Lucky Blanco who served as judges of the said competition. Each of the top five (5) winning entries will be given a 1-year scholarship grant from the Asia Pacific Film Institute.

On top of that, the 15 shortlisted films will be considered for a possible full-length adaptation by Spring Films. The teams will also have the chance to be part of the film production team of Spring Films. An independent film production company, Spring Films was launched in 2009 by Piolo Pascual, together with Joyce Bernal, Erickson Raymundo, and Suzanne Shayne Sarte, which eventually produced the two instalments of the hit comedy franchise “Kimmy Dora.”

The NuCinema Gala Night becomes even more magical and relevant, all in the same breath, as two acclaimed independent films, “Transit,” produced by Paul Soriano and which happens to be this year’s Philippine entry to the Oscar Best Foreign Language Film category and Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Ekstra,” top billed by legendary movie queen Vilma Santos will be screened at Football Field 1 of The Fields in NUVALI, the sprawling and ever-evolving residential and commercial community situated in Sta. Rosa, Calamba, and the Municipality of Cabuyao in Laguna.

Seeking to relive and pay tribute at the same time to the once-popular drive-in theatre experience in the US, NUCinema: NUVALI Outdoor Film Festival is a cinematic endeavor to remember for a long time.

See you at the movies!

Special thanks to SKY Cable, Asia Pacific Film Institute, Ayala Malls Cinemas, The Monochrome, Seda Hotel, Avida, and Amaia.
