One Meralco Foundation supports Filipino-made biopic ‘Ignacio de Loyola’

One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the social responsibility arm of power distributor Meralco, is the co-presentor of “Ignacio De Loyola,” a historical drama based on the memoirs of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus whose members, the Jesuits, are known for their educational, missionary, and charitable works worldwide.

The new full-length independent feature film produced by Jesuit Communications (JesCom) Philippines documents the life and times of St. Ignatius, a Spanish knight who lived a life of vice and violence before he became a changed man and offered himself to the service of God.

An inspiring epic film has been made about the amazing Iife of Ignacio de Loyola better known as St. Ignatius, founder of the Society of Jesus. The movie entitled Ignacio de Loyola chronicles Ignatius’ transformation from a brash young soldier to a man of God. It is a production by the Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom), the media arm of the Philippine Jesuit Province and co-presented by the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific and One Meralco Foundation. Ignacio de Loyola was shot on location in Spain, the home country of St. Ignatius.

JesCom takes “leap of faith” to make film on St. Ignatius

Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom) is not exactly a new production company. JesCom traces its roots to theater stalwart Fr. James Reuter who is billed as the pillar of local Catholic media. Engaged in the creation of audiovisual materials for evangelization and education for almost 30 years, JesCom produces music CDs, Lenten television specials, and the weekly show of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, “The Word Exposed,” which is now aired worldwide via the internet and TV networks in the US and Canada. JesCom has also made a Marilou Diaz-Abaya-directed film, Maging Akin Muli that starred Marvin Agustin as a struggling seminarian.

Known for his acoustic songs and socially-relevant lyrics, singer/songwriter Noel Cabangon releases a new album “Sa ‘Yo Lamang: Papuri at Inspirasyon”, an acoustic versions of traditional church hymns and inspirational tracks produced by Universal Records and Jesuits Communications (JesCom).

“The idea of coming up with this album is my way of giving back to JesCom because they are the ones who gave my first album. This project, of course, is a tie-up with my home label, Universal Records” Cabangon said.

Collecting seven inspirational and gospel songs written by JesCom as interpreted by Cabangon, he also included three of his original compositions that have further serve this album a higher purpose—faith and love of country.
