“Killers of the Flower Moon” Character Chronicles: Robert De Niro as William King Hale, and Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart

Apple Original Films has unveiled two more Character Chronicle featurettes, “Character Chronicles: Robert De Niro as William King Hale”, and “Character Chronicles: Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart”, for Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, De Niro and Gladstone, “Killers of the Flower Moon” will premiere in theaters around the world, including IMAX® theaters, on October 18.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” marks Scorsese’s tenth feature with De Niro, here cast as Ernes’s cattle farming uncle, William “King” Hale, the chief architect of the Reign of Terror. Though ultimately convicted of murder, Hale is a mass of contradictions: an extortionist and intimidator but also someone who truly believes himself to be a friend to the Osage, the “most beautiful people in the world,” he calls them.

Killers of the Flower Moon - A Battle of Greed and Love

The amazing partnership of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio plus Robert De Niro continues to bring another movie masterpiece called "Killers of the Flower Moon" which I can say one of the best films this year. It also features Lily Gladstone, which I can say did an incredible performance and stole the show. It also stars Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser in supporting roles.

Killers of the Flower Moon centers on the story of the Osage Count Indian murders in the 1920s, which is rooted on the greed that targets the Osage Native Americans who became wealthy because of their oil-rich lands. A story which became a sensation during its time which also reflects the plight and struggles of Native Americans today. 

Though it comes at a surprising length of over three hours, I have some hesitation that I can keep my focus and bladder for the whole duration. But it its very recommended to have an empty bladder as every scene has significance and paced appropriately.

Challenged and motivated by the role of Ernest Burkhart, DiCaprio committed himself to finding a footing for the character. “He assimilated himself into the Osage culture and became very much a chameleon,” the actor says of Burkhart. “We had a lot of meetings with members of the Osage community and they were incredibly helpful. We had some great advisers – that was a deep dive.”

Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), “Killers of the Flower Moon” is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal. Apple Original Films today unveiled the key art for Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and announced that the film will open wide, in theaters around the world, in partnership with Paramount Pictures, starting October 18. Following its global theatrical run, the film will debut on Apple TV+. Starring a cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone, the film premiered earlier this year at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with broad critical acclaim and an extended standing ovation.

The wide theatrical release of “Killers of the Flower Moon” will also include IMAX® theatres, for which the film will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. There will never be another year like 1969, and Quentin Tarantino’s new film Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood captures the turbulence and uncertainties of this pivotal period in global history.

The 1960s was the height of a creative and political counter-cultural movement in America. Life was fun, love was free, the music was new and everywhere, the poetry was deep and thought-provoking and everyone believed change was in the air.

But by 1969 the peaceful façade of the movement was crumbling.  People were angry, about the Vietnam war, about civil rights and Americans were still reeling from the 1968 assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Despite the moon landing – 1969’s great crowning achievement -  the growing darkness culminated on August 9, 2019, when a band of hippies lead by self-proclaimed messiah Charles Manson broke into actress Sharon Tate’s Bel Air home and murdered the 8-months pregnant star and 4 of her housemates.  The murders shocked and terrified not only the Hollywood community but the world, and the peace-loving flower-power 1960s were officially over.  Their story became one of the most tragic legends of a changing world.

The history of the American fur trade is brief, yet pivotal, full of tales of daring but also grave destruction.  Though the fur trade forged the romantic image of the mountain man – idealized loners purportedly as rugged as the wilderness they felt beholden to tame -- the fur trade was also very much a business. In a sense it ushered in the first emergence of the archetypal Western entrepreneur, the visionary iconoclast who forges ahead answerable to no one but himself. 

This is the era of “The Revenant,” where trappers go into pristine landscapes among indigenous populations to extract resources – and the question that comes up is: at what cost?
